STEM Library Program

Public libraries are becoming increasingly popular spaces for informal STEM learning — and it’s easy to see why. Libraries are evolving to meet the educational needs of the communities they serve, offering more than just books and summer reading programs. Many East Bay libraries now provide engaging STEM activities designed for the whole family.

Libraries are ideal spaces for programs like SAfG for two key reasons: they are trusted, inclusive environments, and they serve as regular gathering places for children and families throughout the year. Research shows that when parents and caregivers actively participate in STEM activities, it can spark long-term interest in science and math—especially among girls and other groups traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.
