SAfG Receives “Non-Profit of the Year Award!”

Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG) is thrilled to announce that it has just received the "Non-Profit of the Year Award" from Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks's District 14 office (our district) in partnership with the California Nonprofits Association.  

This recognition truly belongs to each and every SAfG community member, as it reflects the dedication and passion you bring to SAfG every single day. For the past ten years, your commitment has been the driving force behind our mission to empower girls from Title 1 schools through the wonders of STEM.

Think back on the countless hours spent igniting a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in young minds. Consider the innovative projects brought to life and the unwavering support provided behind the scenes. Every interaction, every lesson, every volunteer hour has contributed to a decade of meaningful impact.

Together, we have opened doors to new possibilities, fostered confidence, and inspired the next generation of female leaders in STEM. This award is a testament to the collective difference we have made in the lives of so many children.

Upcoming Local Events

Alaska Aviation Day at San Francisco International Airport is Back on June 14

This free event is aimed at stimulating aviation dreams in youth/young adults aged 11 – 18, by sharing potential career paths in aviation and aerospace. At Aviation Day, attendees have the opportunity to meet pilots, flight attendants, engineers, technicians, air traffic controllers and first responders and get an up close view of different types of aircraft.

Date: Sat, June 14th, 2025

Time: 10:00am-3:00pm

Location: San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

Rising Stargirls Presents

The Universe: More than Meets the Eye

Rising Stargirls is thrilled to announce the 2025 Rising Stargirls Virtual Workshop—a unique, hands-on astronomy and astrobiology experience designed to engage girls from underrepresented backgrounds through art, writing, music, and theater. This year’s virtual workshop will take place from June 16 to June 27, and we’re excited for you to experience this STEM programming! Led by graduate student facilitators from the University of California, Irvine, this immersive two-week workshop will spark imagination and build confidence as participants explore the universe and their place within it.

Rising Stargirls Presenta

El Universo: Más de lo que ves

Rising Stargirls se complace en anunciar el Taller Virtual Rising Stargirls 2025, una experiencia única y práctica en astronomía y astrobiología, diseñada para involucrar a niñas de comunidades subrepresentadas a través del arte, la escritura, la música y el teatro. El taller virtual de este año se llevará a cabo del 16 al 27 de junio, ¡y estamos emocionadas de que formes parte de este programa STEM!

Guiado por facilitadoras estudiantes de posgrado de la Universidad de California en Irvine, este taller inmersivo de dos semanas despertará la imaginación y fortalecerá la confianza de las participantes mientras exploran el universo y su lugar en él.

Reach for the Clouds: An Inspiring Pilot's Story

Have you ever looked up at a plane and dreamed of flying? Cristina Martinez-Caceres did! She worked hard and is now a pilot. While some were surprised to see a woman pilot, Cristina proved that anyone can achieve their dreams with effort, as her family always told her. Being a pilot allows her to see amazing sights like beautiful sunrises high in the sky. It's special work, and although she sometimes misses holidays at home, Cristina loves to fly. She wants you to know that if you have a dream, like flying in the sky, you can achieve it! Currently, Cristina appeared virtually in our SAfG classes to inspire girls to chase their dreams as one of the awesome Aviation role models in our classes! Her journey reflects dedication, overcoming barriers, and a deep appreciation for her career in a male-dominated field, along with navigating personal sacrifices gracefully.
