Family Science Nights Finish for the school year

SAfG facilitated more Family Science Nights in 2025-2026 than the last three years combined. These events are critical to our our work because they create meaningful opportunities for girls and their families to learn and grow interest together, strengthening community connections while helping young girls build confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging in STEM.

Our volunteers made these evening possible. Their time spent engaging families in activities, checking groups in, collecting surveys, serving pizza, and more provided the logistical and programmatic necessities for learning and fun.

Single-day opportunity:
Inspire girls and play with SLIME!

We have just 5 more schools that need female Role Model visits before the end of the month!

If you are a female-identifying STEM/trade professional or grad student, spend one afternoon with our elementary school girls telling them about yourself and helping with a SLIME project!

Each school needs just ONE Role Model on ONE afternoon.

Single day - Library Program Assistant

Commitment: 2-3 hours
Requirements: 15+ years old, brief virtual training
Opportunities:

• Richmond Libraries

  • July 22nd, 27th, & 29th

  • 1:30pm-3:30pm

• Alameda Free Library

  • Saturday, June 16th

  • 1pm-3:30pm

Multiday - Summer Camp Assistant

What: Help teachers facilitate a rotation of 1 hour STEM lessons for elementary school-ages kids. Site and lesson depending, topics could include slime, neuroscience, toy design, Legos, and more.

Requirements:

1. Be 15+ years old

2. Attend a virtual training

3. If 18 years or over, camp volunteers must also:
   - Provide proof of negative TB Test (good for 2 years)
   - Be fingerprinted (good for 2 years)
   - Complete CA Mandated Reporter training (good for 1 year)

Opportunities:

Richmond

• When: Mondays-Thursdays, June 22nd - July 23rd

• Shift times:

  • Full Day 9am-5pm

  • Half Day 9am-12:30pm or 1pm-5pm

• Where: 1 of 3 Elementary schools in Richmond

Oakland

• When: Mondays, Tuesdays, OR Thursdays
  June 8 - July 31

• Shift times: 2-3 hours per day (mornings)

• Where: 1 of 3 Boys and Girls Clubs in Oakland

Southern Oakland

• When: Monday June 8th & Wednesdays, June 10th, 17th, 24th & July 8th

• Shift times: 12:45pm-5pm

• Where: Korematsu Discovery Academy

Emeryville

• When: Various weekdays June 22-July 9

• Shift times: 12:30pm-3pm

• Where: Anna Yates Elementary
